A figure in a room is condemned to a never-ending meal of flesh and blood.
According to Jung’s shadow archetype theory, the shadow is the undesirable part of ourselves, one we wish to keep buried and hidden, despite its screams for attention and desires to be understood. We must confront the shadow, or be condemned to ill-fated self-fulfilling prophecies. Or as Carl Jung poetically summates: “What is not brought to consciousness, comes to us as fate."
